Begin by measuring the width and height of the existing window frame, not the sash or glass. Start with the width, measuring from the left jamb to the right jamb at three points: the top, middle, and bottom. Write down the smallest of the three measurements, as this will prevent the new window from being too large. Next, measure the height of the window from the head jamb to the sill, again taking measurements at the left, center, and right sides. Use the smallest measurement as the final height. Lastly, measure the window depth to make sure it can accommodate the replacement window. This thorough measuring process will ensure a proper fit and avoid costly adjustments during installation.

What are standard replacement window sizes?

Replacement windows come in a variety of standard sizes to fit the most common rough openings. While exact dimensions can vary by manufacturer, typical window sizes are often categorized by type, such as double-hung, casement, and picture windows.
