Tips to Prepare Your Home for Siding Installation

For most homeowners, siding replacement is a significant investment. It enhances a home’s curb appeal and energy efficiency. However, before starting your siding installation project for your Birmingham, AL home, it’s best to ensure your home is ready for the installation of your new siding.

Here are the measures you can take to prepare your home for siding work.

Trim Trees and Shrubs

If you have trees or shrubs near your home, trim them back away from your siding. Cutting the grass on your lawn will also make it easier for the installers to use a magnetic nail finder to ensure nails or staples aren’t left behind. If you have a flower bed or garden, make sure to cover it with a drop cloth or tarp to avoid debris buildup. Otherwise, dirt and debris might get in the way of the installation and slow down the process.

Clear the Outdoor Area

It’s important that the work zones during your siding project are clear from any obstructions. Remove potted plants, outdoor furniture or gardening equipment to give more space to the workers. Siding installation will be faster if you move the items to another area that’s out of the installers’ way.

Remove Items on Walls

During siding removal and installation, vibrations might flow through the walls inside your home and cause slight shaking. Remove any fragile items hanging on the walls, such as art pieces or framed photos, to prevent them from falling. Before the project begins, store these items in a safe place where they won’t get damaged.

Park Your Car Elsewhere

Clear your driveway or garage, and relocate your car two days before your installation schedule. During that time, a dumpster and your new siding are to be delivered, so adequate space will be needed. The workers will also need access to haul away old siding materials. This step can also help reduce the chance of getting your car damaged by loose debris.
