Remodeling Job Stories | Pelham, AL Bathroom Remodel
I. Project Overview
Reliable Design-Build-Remodel rebuilt the Covington family’s bathroom back in 2022, and it’s still one of our best looking projects! The remodel was carefully planned to guide the homeowner through a clear, step-by-step process that balances preparation, construction, and finishing work.
Reliable overhauled the entire bathroom, installing a brand new frameless, curbless shower, plumbing fixtures, new countertops, cabinetry, and lighting fixtures!

II. Project Timeline
The construction ran from August to October of 2022. Constant communication and oversight through our project software, Buildertrend, allows all of our clients to be completely aware of all aspects of design and construction from start to finish!
This Gantt chart outlines the entire timeline of the project. After a brief out-of-town period, on-site work begins with demolition, site protection, and dumpster delivery, then progresses through framing adjustments, plumbing rough-ins, shower pan installation, and countertop installation.

The project moves into drywall hanging and finishing, tile preparation, installation, and grouting, with inspections scheduled at key milestones to maintain quality and code compliance. As the space comes together, trim work, electrical rough-in and trim, lighting, ventilation, painting, and shower door measurement are completed in a coordinated sequence. Final stages include plumbing trim-out, carpet installation, electrical and plumbing final inspections, glass enclosure installation, punch list items, and finishing touches such as haze removal and warranty cleaning.

III. Design-Build-Remodel – How Did We Get There?
Reliable began this project as we begin all of our projects, by laying down protective floor mats, so that we don’t damage the flooring of the home as we remove debris from the demolition phase!
Our favorite floor protection is Trimaco X-Board, which has leak resistant protection to prevent any kind of damage from hurting our client’s homes!

Demolition is always a messy, messy business, but with proper planning and preparation, the home is left spotless when all is said and done!
The Covington’s decided to keep the frame of the cabinetry, only electing to replace the countertops and cabinets themselves.
Structural framing adjustments followed, along with critical plumbing rough-ins for the shower floor and installation of the Wedi shower pan.
Framing alterations can appear as destructive as the demolition phase, but our expert trade craftsmen are careful to remove only the parts that are necessary in order to remodel the area.

You can see here the Wedi shower pan that was installed!
These pre-sloped and waterproof shower bases are designed with a low profile perimeter thickness to easily recess flush into a subfloor construction when a barrier free entry is required and come with a wedi® Fundo Click and Seal® Drain unit.
The Wedi shower system comes in multiple parts, the gray part on top being the top layer that the final drain system is installed into!
This phase laid the foundation for all future finishes and ensured systems were correctly positioned before walls were closed and the next phase could begin.

Next, the project transitioned into walls, surfaces, and core finishes. Drywall was installed and completed at this time, and Reliable was able to move onto painting and installation of new fixtures and cabinetry!
You can see what a difference a new coat of paint and new countertops can make in the same space as the old materials!
The Covington family chose Avani White Carrara Quartz countertops for their upgraded bathroom space!

The previous phase was followed closely by tile preparation, tile installation, and grouting for shower and floor areas. Rough plumbing inspections occurred during this stage to confirm everything met code before moving forward. Electrical rough work and trim installation were coordinated alongside drywall finishing to keep the schedule efficient and minimize downtime
The Covington’s chose Bianco Covelano Matte tiles for the walls of their new curbless shower, and Vintage Hex shower floor tiles in Wisdom White from Daltile!
The Covington’s also chose the Covelano tiles for the floor of the rest of the bathroom as well, but this time in a brick pattern that differentiates it, ever so slightly, from the Covelano used in the shower!

As the remodel neared completion, attention shifted to visible finishes and fixtures. Painting, light fixtures, vent fan installation, countertop installation, and shower door measuring all occurred in sequence.
Once custom glass and remaining materials arrived, final plumbing trim-out, carpet installation, and electrical work—including inspections and smoke detector installation—were completed to bring the remodel to a close!
The project concluded with final inspections, punch list items, and quality touch-ups, such as glass enclosure installation, kitchen ceiling repair, tile haze removal, and warranty cleaning of the shower floor. This final phase ensured all work met both professional standards and, of course, the homeowner’s expectations.
Overall the Covington project was a demonstration of how the Design-Build process’ inherent efficiency, coupled with transparency and clear communication with homeowners, leads to remodeling projects that are stress-free and expertly crafted!

IV. Conclusion of the Covington Project
