Remodeling Job Stories | Hoover, AL Bathroom Remodel
I. Project Overview
We’re super excited to share a few choice projects, where we pick amazing remodeling Job Stories and explain why they worked!
We’ve had a working relationship with Mrs. Lori Scogin for years, going back to 2018. Her Whole House Remodel project ran from March to June of 2021. With Lori’s amazing material selections, and Reliable’s Design-Build Process and expert craftsmen, everything from the Hall Bathroom to the Window Installation went off without a hitch!
For this Whole House Remodel, we tackled the Master and Guest Bathrooms, Window Installation, and some minor Interior and Exterior Renovations, including painting the inside of the house!
II. Project Timeline
Mrs. Scogin’s project ran from March to June of 2023. Constant communication and oversight through our project software, Buildertrend, allows all of our clients to be completely aware of all aspects of design and construction from start to finish!

III. Design-Build-Remodel
Reliable starts every project by installing floor protection for the homes we’ll be working in. Our favorite floor protection is Trimaco X-Board, which has leak resistant protection to prevent any kind of damage from hurting our client’s homes!
After a thorough selection process for all of the allowances needed for two bathrooms, all materials were ordered and shipped to her home to await our start date. The project began with Reliable renovating the Hall Guest Bathroom; a working bathroom would be needed after demolition started on the Master Bath so this was the right decision for their family. The hall bathroom was removed of all of its fixtures, cabinets, trim, and drywall at the tub. The existing tub was in great shape so Mrs. Scogin’s decision to leave it in place saved money and time to allocate to other priorities. Mrs. Scogin chose a beautiful CT-Quartz “Ocean” countertop for the sink, and after we began preparation for installing the countertop, Reliable began a complete trim and cabinetry overhaul for the entire bathroom. The countertop for this bathroom was also a remnant piece, which saved Mrs. Scogin a considerable amount of money!
For the cabinets we went with Miseno’s cabinet hardware options, in brushed satin nickel; specifically 1-3/16 Inch Square-Taper Cabinet Knobs and 3 Inch Center to Center Square Handle-Style Cabinet Bars.
The next phase of the project involved window installation from our trusted contractor Chris, who installed this gorgeous new window.
Installation of windows is a lot less complicated than people think!
We then went back to the guest bathroom, and we began this portion of the remodel by installing a new tub valve, a new tile tub surround with an intricate listello vertical border, a new vanity cabinet from Northpoint, in solid wood construction, and a shaker door in a white finish with a new quartz countertop; It complements the selected tile flooring from ACME Brick Tile and Stone, which are French Clay Bronzage 3×24 tiles. The faucet matches the tub shower trim. Mrs. Scogin chose Roca “White Ice Bright” tiles, laid in 1/3 brick pattern, with a pearl colored grout for her bathtub. We then installed an amazing glass mosaic tile!
We then moved onto the house’s Master Bathroom, taking the measurements for the freestanding bathtub’s concrete foundation. The old outdated cultured marble tub sat in the corner of the bathroom and was not resting square against the two opposing vanities. It was a great look when the house was built, but free standing tubs are so popular today due to their being so many choices available in size, shape and color.
Same as in the hall bath, all fixtures, cabinets, countertops, trim, tub, and tile flooring were removed in preparation for the new selections. The shower is situated in a wet room adjacent to the main bath and we had remodeled this room in 2018 so it was left outside of this scope.
The challenges with a free standing tub when combined with a concrete slab floor is that the drain has to be moved to the exact location where the tub will be installed.
Installation does not happen until new tile flooring and cabinetry has been completed. If a mistake is made in our measurements this would spell disaster as the new tile and concrete subfloor would have to be torn up again to fix it. Our experience with over 30 years and countless tub installations guided as well.
A template was made of the tub out of cardboard. Cabinets were drawn unto the floor and measurements were taken to provide for the best location of the tub. The concrete subfloor was partially removed and our plumbing contractors expertly moved the plumbing drains and water to the new location.
These measurements have to be precise to ensure the plumbing rough and install match up with the bathtub itself! The plumbing rough began shortly after the tub measurements.
Mrs. Scogin chose a beautiful 67″ freestanding acrylic Hadlow bathtub, in a white and nickel-plated finish.
Not long after that we completed the interior paint prep for the drywall inside in the house! Repairing drywall imperfections before painting is best practice for the interiors.
Floor tile installation began with 12×24 tiles, Core Carrara in White, being laid in a third brick joint, which always creates the most stunning of the staggered patterns.
Ms. Scogin also chose an “Alaska White” countertop, which Reliable installed after the trimming for the new rectangular sink and plumbing,
The new plumbing also included a brand new Delta Flynn sink faucet finished in a stainless steel finish. She also chose the Maxim Brentwood 20″ Wide Bath Light to go above the bathroom mirrors, which highlights and accents the almost monochrome style this room now has.
As you can see in the finished pics, it looks like this tub has always resided there. To complete the transformation; new cabinets from Northpoint, new quartz countertops, a new window above the tub, new plumbing, mirror, and light fixtures along with trim really put this new room into today’s design trends. Some of the little things like cabinetry hardware can really put your flair and touch on your remodel. Overall, as far as remodeling Job Stories go, this one ended up as a feather in our cap simply due to the wonderful relationship we cultured with Ms. Scogin, along with the beautiful end result!
IV. Conclusion of the Scogin Project
Ultimately the Scogin remodeling job story is a great example of just how efficient and cost-effective Reliable’s Design-Build process is for our clients. Ms. Scogin was kind enough to leave us a five star review, along with some kind words:
“Reliable Design-Build-Remodel did an amazing job installing my french patio doors. They did a shower remodel for me back in 2018 and were wonderful to work with so when I needed new doors, I knew exactly who to call. They are extremely professional & have experts in every field. They show up on time and are very neat. The owner, James Walton, inspects each job himself to make sure his clients are fully satisfied.
