Remodeling Job Stories | Hoover, AL Exterior Renovations
I. Project Overview
Michael and Lynn Marassa’s remodeling project was a great object lesson in how replacing just a few windows and doors can make a huge quality of life improvement!
For this Exterior Renovations project, with minor Interior Renovations, we completed siding repair with exterior and interior painting, installation of brand new full-frame replacement windows, and a door installation!
II. Project Timeline
The Marassa project ran from late January to July 1st of 2024. Constant communication and oversight through our project software, Buildertrend, allows all of our clients to be completely aware of all aspects of design and construction from start to finish!

III. Design-Build-Remodel
As with all of our projects, we began in our Project Development stage, where we drew up all the scopes, allowance schedules, and drawings that informed the rest of the job. Once Project Development is over, we then move on to construction.
Michael and Lyn Marassa moved to Alabama from out of state, and so didn’t know what contractors were reputable or not. However, an old friend of Reliable, Mrs. Robin Owings from RealtySouth, told them about Reliable since we worked on her house in the past as well! Like they say, good word of mouth is the best advertising!
As far as the actual project was concerned, the Marassa’s patio door was needing to be replaced with a completely new unit, and so Reliable took pictures and began measurements to see what would need to be done to remove it!
There are two doors that lead out onto the patio, one in the Master Bedroom, and one in the Kitchen; Reliable replaced both as part of this project!
Reliable then began minor siding repair while also taking window measurements in order to facilitate the window replacement coming later in the project!
After finishing the siding repair, we also had to remove the window trim from the existing windows so installation could be seamless!
We had to remove some of the hardwood flooring in order to get at the base of the door, and we slowly but surely chipped away until we were able to remove the door!
Reliable filled in the missing portions of hardwood we had to take out to get at the door, and the Marassa’s chose Wynfield Hickory 5″ Warm Sunset flooring.
The doors were replaced with brand new ONYX Nova fiberglass doors from Plastpro, which we purchased from our good friends at Builders Millwork in Bessemer! We purchased the flooring from Issis and Sons Furniture, who in recent years have expanded their inventory to included flooring options!
The Marassa family chose custom built Double-Hung, full-frame windows to replace the front windows of their home, and these windows came custom made from Sierra Pacific Windows!
We were getting near the end of the project at this stage, since after we installed all the windows, we began the drywall repair phase, which precedes finishing touches like painting and appliance installation!
After the drywall repair stage, we installed the trim for the windows and the replacement flooring for the doors! We also began painting the exterior of the home and painting the interior where we did our drywall repair!
These are Low-E glass windows, which are an energy saving alternative to regular windows that prevent excess heat entering or leaving your home. We highly recommend anyone considering a home remodel to get Low-E Glass windows!
IV. Conclusion of the Marassa Project
The Marassa project was a small project, but small doesn’t mean that any less effort goes into making the end result look absolutely spectacular, especially if that end result is exactly what the homeowners were looking to achieve!
