Remodeling Job Stories | Helena, AL Whole House Remodel
I. Project Overview
This Helena, AL Whole House Remodel project for Mrs. Nina Gunnin began in April of 2023, and Reliable Design-Build-Remodel went out and made it one of our most successful projects!
While it turned out in the end that the kitchen would be the focal point of the whole project, there was a ton of other work in the bathroom for a new shower, as well as other minor Interior Renovations.
II. Project Timeline
Mrs. Gunnin’s project ran from early October to late November of 2023, which is the typical timeframe for one of our projects. Constant communication and oversight through our project software, Buildertrend, allows all of our clients to be completely aware of all aspects of design and construction from start to finish!

III. Design-Build-Remodel
The project began with Reliable expanding out the kitchen space for Mrs. Gunnin; we had to create a temporary wall to support the new home addition. Temporary walls are an integral part of supporting early stages of remodeling projects. After the concrete was cured, we were able to install the support posts that would hold up the newly extended kitchen!
The Hall Bathroom was next on the docket, as Mrs. Gunnin wanted a glass enclosure for the shower.
Enclosed showers can take a lot of prep work, but the results really are worth their weight in gold!
Reliable starts every interior remodeling project by installing floor protection for the homes we’ll be working in. Our favorite floor protection is Trimaco X-Board, which has leak resistant protection to prevent any kind of damage from hurting our client’s homes!
A few days after we had done the tile prep work for the Hall Bathroom shower, we officially began installation of the new shower unit! We used the Crescent line of sliding bypass doors from CR Lawrence, in matte black, which looks astoundingly luxurious in the final project!
Back in the Kitchen, Reliable started the plumbing and electrical rough-ins; this is where we install all the new connections into the walls, floors, and ceilings of the new space.
Our expert contractors and inspectors make sure nothing is amiss during this extraordinarily important part of project.
Back in the Hall Bathroom, new shower tiles took Mrs. Gunnin’s old shower unit from zero to hero, and concluded Reliable’s major work outside the Kitchen.
Picket tile from Roca, in white, is extremely tedious to install. Luckily our tile expert Brian makes everything look easy!
Reliable also installed Zei white onyx matte 12×24 floor tiles for the Hall Bathroom, bringing together form and function for a brand new feeling of luxury and class!
After the electrical rough and plumbing rough were finished, Reliable began padding the interior walls with insulation.
We began drywall installation and promptly finished it, sanding down in preparation for the brand new cabinetry Mrs. Gunnin wanted for the Kitchen. This was the point where we knew the Kitchen was really coming together.
Sanded down drywall means that painting is the next phase of the remodel! Mrs. Gunnin chose to go with high hiding flat white for the ceiling, Drift of Mist in Eggshell sheen from Sherwin Williams for the walls, and the trim was color matched to the cabinet color as we installed room crown across the tops of all the cabinets.
Fun fact, eggshell requires two coats to provide proper coverage and sheen depth.
Splash tile filled the rest of the wall above the counters to the ceiling for this project, ending up in a dramatic looking contrast.
The selection being installed is a 3×10 on a running 1/3 bond; Opulenza Masonry in Maple Street.
The backsplash was grouted, and a brand new range hood appliance was installed, a Bertazonni Master Series 36 inch All Gas Range with 5 Burners, in stainless steel. The stove hood was painted to match the cabinetry, and was completed just in time for Thanksgiving!
IV. Conclusion of the Gunnin Project
Mrs. Gunnin’s project was an exercise in how perfection is a hundred little things done right. The project was executed by our licensed expert craftsmen to the best of their abilities, and the results speak for themselves.
