I. Project Overview

Ms. Debbie Wood’s Alabaster, AL window installation and full-frame window replacement project was an exercise in efficiency and professional measuring, which is the most important part when dealing with this kind of project.

We installed brand new Jeld-Wen windows and sliding glass door, which required replacing three static windows of the home’s dining room!

II. Project Timeline

The Wood project ran from February to March of 2024. Constant communication and oversight through our project software, Buildertrend, allows all of our clients to be completely aware of all aspects of design and construction from start to finish!

III. Design-Build-Remodel

Reliable began this project in the Glenn Abbey Way subdivision of Alabaster by looking first at the area of the dining room that would have to be torn out to make room for the sliding door that would be coming later!

After making the required measurements, which have to be exacting when dealing with a supportive structure like this wall, Reliable moved on to the preparatory stages.

After removing all furniture that would impede work, we laid down floor protection throughout the house wherever there could be damage to the hardwood flooring of the house.

Reliable starts every project by installing floor protection for the homes we’ll be working in. Our favorite floor protection is Trimaco X-Board, which has leak resistant protection to prevent any kind of damage from hurting our client’s homes!

This job involved a complete replacement of all the windows in the home!

The windows Mrs. Wood chose are Jeld-Wen SunResist™ Low-E Insulating Glass windows, which are a energy saving alternative to regular glass!

These windows are aluminum clad with auralast wood frames. The warranty from Jeld Wen is actually really impressive. Auralast gives protection against wood rot and pest infestation for a limited lifetime for the original owner.

While the full-frame window replacement for the sliding door was the largest part of the project, the rest of the window replacements were relatively simple, but they still required exacting care by highly-trained professionals to make sure they fit into the framed openings of the old windows.

Overall, Reliable replaced 18 regular windows and the three windows in the dining room with these Jeld-Wen windows. While Low-E glass is costlier up front, the average source heating and cooling energy savings ranged from 21% to 36% after years of continued use. Not bad for something as low-maintenance as a window!

This triple window unit was reframed from the inside out, and then converted into accepting a triple sliding door unit from Jeld-Wen!

To begin the sliding door replacement, Reliable started minor interior renovations to remove the drywall and insulation, the windows, and the wall that needed to be removed to make way for the new sliding door!

Auralast wood protection, with a clad exterior, means this Alabaster, AL window replacement will stand against the elements. To make this happen for Ms. Debbie, the exterior was altered with a continuous LVL header engineered to support the exterior wall and roof loads. It’s a big beam, but certainly not the largest we have worked with. Our extensive experience with structural alterations made this job a snap.
