Remodeling Job Stories | Alabaster, AL Whole House Remodel
I. Project Overview
Kristi Morrow’s Alabaster, AL Whole House Remodel tackled many interesting and beautiful additions to her home, including new decking, changes to the bathrooms and kitchens, and a massive upgrade to the main staircase!
We’re confident in saying this is one of our biggest and best Whole House Remodel projects we’ve had the pleasure of completing!
II. Project Timeline
The Morrow project ran from November 27th of 2023 to June 5th of 2024. Constant communication and oversight through our project software, Buildertrend, allows all of our clients to be completely aware of all aspects of design and construction from start to finish!
Take a closer look at the pictures of Mrs. Morrow’s Alabaster, AL Whole House Remodel project, with this before and after gallery!
III. Design-Build-Remodel
Reliable began the project by assessing the Morrow’s original spaces, and we began drawing up new designs to match what she was looking for!
This was going to be a massive affair, so there was a lot of prep work and planning for this project. We were really eager to get started on upgrading this home!
Here, you can see our blueprint layout of her original kitchen, bathroom, and laundry spaces, as well as other blueprints we drew up! These are always part of our expert design services for our clients!
After removing or adjusting all furniture that would impede work, we laid down floor protection throughout the house wherever there could be damage to the hardwood flooring of the house.
Reliable starts every project by installing floor protection for the homes we’ll be working in. Our favorite floor protection is Trimaco X-Board, which has leak resistant protection to prevent any kind of damage from hurting our client’s homes!
Reliable began the project with the installation of this gorgeous LVP flooring while we assessed the staircase going upstairs and the garage staircase, both of which were needing renovations.
We also got in the brand new cabinetry soon after we began flooring installation, which would require an initial inspection process while we proceeded to work on the staircases.
The Morrow’s were adamant that we upgrade their staircases, and so Reliable set to work on sanding down the original staircase and removing the support posts going up and across! This was one of the most important and long-running parts of the project!
We also took a look at their garage staircase, which needed to be completely torn out and replaced with brand new flooring! You can see in these pictures the step by step process of building out the framework of the small staircase.
In projects involving staircases, one of the most important aspects that is often overlooked in others is the trim! Since we were doing two staircases, we had to be very careful around the edges of the walls, and when we needed to we patched up or wholesale replaced parts of the trim!
We used materials from Builder’s Millwork, which were made of Oak and Red Oak!
We had to begin a minor demolition on the exterior screen deck in order to install the new door, as well as extending out the deck across the side of the home!
Reliable then replaced the exterior doors that lead out onto the screen deck!
We also began staining and painting the new decking around this time, which would be a prolonged effort over the course of the project’s lifespan!
Reliable then began the effort of installing and replacing the posts and handrails of the interior staircase, which were sanded and ready to be primed and finished with a new dark stain, along with the stair flooring!
We then proceeded with the demolition phase of the kitchen remodel! New cabinetry, paint, countertops, and appliances were part of this kitchen remodel, and there was much preparation in order to reach that end goal!
The phase that comes after demolition is always the rough-in phase, where we install all the mechanical parts that are required for a remodel, including electrical and plumbing. We started our rough-in with the electrical rough!
In addition to the kitchen, we performed the same work in the laundry room! Demolition and electrical rough for the washer and dryer was completed, and the inspection for both rooms passed with flying colors!
We then installed brand new LVP flooring in the kitchen! We got the walls primed and painted, and the next steps involved were installing the new countertops selected by Mrs. Morrow! After that came the sink installation, minor repairs, and installing the tile flooring for the laundry room!
The bathroom was up next for our complete renovation overhaul, as we began tearing out the old shower and cabinetry. The before and after for this bathroom is remarkable!
We then installed this gorgeous tile backsplash for the kitchen! The tile is Flow from Roca, in Dark Gray. The gray color and picket shape really complements the sleek all-white color the Morrow’s wanted for their kitchen!
Reliable installed this gorgeous new Low-E glass window while we began the rough-in phase for the master bathroom portion of the remodel! Low-E glass windows provide reduced energy costs for homes by filtering sunlight and preventing heat loss!
A very popular trend we’ve noticed recently are opaque shower windows! They provide natural light in but prevent anyone from peeping in! We typically install the windows before the waterproofing and grouting phase of the shower remodel, as you can see here! The Morrow family chose the 400 Picture series window from Andersen!
Reliable also had to reroute some of the venting and HVAC for the home during this time frame of the remodel, as part of our framing rough-in phase discovered some issues that necessitated we adjust the HVAC in a prompt and efficient manner!
It was time to start construction on the new frameless walk-in shower, you can see our talented craftsman installing the waterproofing material all across every surface of the shower, and then you can see the grouting that prepared the shower for the tile installation phase!
This was also around the time we began the drywall installation phase for the rest of the areas of the house that we’d already remodeled, so the project was nearing the end very soon after this!
The floor tiles were installed in the laundry room and bathroom, and Mrs. Kristi chose Newport Ferry Matte Porcelain tiles!
Reliable also began and ended the shower tiling phase around this time, and the tile materials are 24×24 Ash Matte and 12×24 Calacatta for the floor and walls of the shower, respectively!
This is also when we installed the brand new cabinetry, countertops, and mirrors for the vanity! We also installed towel bars and we were almost ready to install the new double sinks!
The project was starting to come together very nicely!
